About U-Light
How did it start?
U-Light is a social enterprise that was founded by young African entrepreneurs, based in the United Arab Emirates in response to the 2018 challenge of the Hult Prize, also known as "The Nobel Prize for Students". We bested 20,000+ teams to make it to the Global Finals held in the United Nations, to pitch our business as one of the top final six social enterprises.

Where are we today?
Since then, the company has been on a trajectory to spark a change in the field of energy, as we continue to aim towards ending energy poverty.

To date, U-Light has garnered support from local governments & private entities alike in our primary area of focus - Nigeria, Kenya and Lebanon - in addition to securing over 20,000 pre-orders for its first product in line; and we're just getting started.

At U-Light, we aspire to become the world leader for human-powered energy solutions - empowering millions of people that live in off-grid communities to generate their own power supply using our simple, affordable and reliable products.

Why are we doing this?
We believe that the problems of today, need today's solutions. Which is why we optimized pre-existing technology to empower under-served communities worldwide to pursue better education, achieve higher hours of productivity and live in a safer household environment.
We simply cannot sacrifice incredible youth potential and millions of lives until current expensive solutions become affordable.
